Dean & DeLuca Singapore Review
Dean & DeLuca, a reputable gourmet brand which originated in New York, set foot in Singapore last year in June. I’ve always wanted to give it a try, and I finally did!
The lighting wasn’t ideal for photography, especially with my basic iPhone 5 camera. Hence, please pardon me for some of the lacklustre photos! 🙁
Dean & DeLuca is located at Orchard Central and has a seating capacity of approximately 50. Thankfully, it was only about one-third full when we arrived at 6.30pm on a Friday evening. I guess the hype has diminished over the months?
The selection at Dean & DeLuca is pretty wide, ranging from soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers to all day breakfast meals. Cakes, pastries, as well as hot and cold beverages are also served. We had a hard time deciding! The only menu in the restaurant was hung above the counters, so the seven of us couldn’t sit down comfortably while we made up our minds. After loitering in front of the counters for a good fifteen minutes or so, we placed our order for five dishes, to be shared among the seven of us. If it’s not enough, we can always order more later!
Honey Roast Ham and Gouda Sandwich
“Premium honey roasted ham with Gouda cheese and cranberry walnut pesto in ciabatta”
This Honey Roast Ham and Gouda Sandwich is my favourite among the three savoury dishes we ordered. As you can see, the honey roasted ham comes in a generous serving. The bread is also fragrant and soft, good for peeps with braces like me! I couldn’t stop popping the chips into my mouth too haha.
Portobello Cheese Burger
“Angus beef, Gouda cheese, grilled portobello mushroom, beefsteak, tomato slices, lettuce leaves”
This was not bad. It came with plenty of french fries. The serving is so huge, I don’t think one person can finish it unless you’re a massive eater. The burger bun and beef patty were soft and easy to munch on. While cutting the burger up into smaller pieces for sharing, I noticed that the beefsteak was not well done. It was probably medium or medium well done. I usually prefer my steak to be well done, but had no problem with this Portobello Cheese Burger. I may be adventurous and have my steaks in medium or medium well doneness the next time round!
American Country Breakfast
“Eggs, bacon, hash brown, sautéed portobello mushrooms, pork sausage, roasted vine ripened cherry tomatoes and toasted farmhouse multi-grain bread”
This American Country Breakfast is the least photogenic dish, and also my least favourite dish. I’m personally not a huge fan of bacon. Every piece of bacon just screams “FATS and OIL” to me. The sautéed portobello mushrooms were dry and tasteless. The best part of this dish would be the eggs. But honestly, the price of S$22 doesn’t justify this dish, regardless how good the eggs can be. McDonald’s breakfast offers similar eggs too, and at a much more pocket friendly price.
Berries and Flap Jacks
“Oat and honey buttermilk pancakes with fresh mixed berries, Dean & DeLuca ‘Grade A’ organic maple syrup”
This Berries and Flap Jacks is one of the two sweet dishes we ordered, and I love it! The pancakes were thicker and fatter than the usual pancakes. It was also soft and fluffy, and went very well with the cream which was slightly sweet but won’t make you feel “gelat”. I didn’t see maple syrup though, wondering if they missed it out or was it replaced by the cream?
Sautéed Brioche French Toast with Salted Caramelized Bananas and Fresh Berries
“Two one inch thick slices of French brioche with “salted” caramelized bananas, fresh berries, and vanilla ice cream”
For those who are not a fan of desserts and sweet stuff in general, this Sautéed Brioche French Toast with Salted Caramelized Bananas and Fresh Berries may be too sweet for you. The dish came with a lot of caramel sauce, and the toasts were also drenched in caramel sauce. Even I, who self-proclaims to have a sweet tooth, found the caramel a little overpowering. However, the vanilla ice cream can come to the rescue as it is just a little sweet and most importantly, has a rich and smooth vanilla taste to it.
Price: S$3.50 per bottle
We had a bottle of peach nectar and pomegranate juice each to share among three of us. The peach nectar was rich and definitely needed some diluting with ice. In contrast, the pomegranate juice was really sour and we had to mix it with the peach nectar to balance it out. Overall, the juices were good choices to mix with both our savoury and sweet dishes. Besides juices, Dean & DeLuca also serves hot and cold coffee beverages, teas, ice blends and milkshakes.
I spent about S$25 for this meal, given that we shared the dishes. I would say that Dean & DeLuca did well for both the savoury and sweet delights, and I can already picture myself heading back again to try the others. Looking forward to my next visit! 🙂

Outfit of the day includes tank top from Zara, floral jeans from Cotton On, and sandals from Warehouse. Bought the floral jeans at a steal of S$20! It was the last piece on the sale rack and the size fits me to a T! It makes me really happy when I manage to pick up items like these haha. Don’t you agree? 😉
